D'N HOLLANDER
Hollandershoeve
The name Hollandershoeve is derived from our family's nickname; namely, our dad was Frans (Suske) van Jan van d'n Hollander. In Reusel are very many families with nicknames, with several branches Lavrijsen in the village, the nickname helps to point someone home.
Hence, in 2006, when we opened the lodge farm, the choice of name was quickly made: Hollandershoeve.
We proudly adopted this name when we opened the restaurant in mid-2012. It fits us like a glove.
According to Heemkunde Werkgroep Reusel, there are two readings on the origin of the nickname Van d'n Hollander.
The first indicates that there were several Lavrijsens in Napoleon's army who were called 'Hollanders' by the Belgian and French soldiers. The second reading is that our family used to live at 't Holland, still a Reusel street name.
Where exactly the truth lies is not entirely clear, but it is true that the family name Lavrijsen has been present in Reusel since 1650.
